Penfeidr and the Woodlands

Penfeidr was formerly a smithy in the days when a water powered corn mill, which is being restored as a working mill at the present time, and a woollen mill were working in the hamlet of Star, these watermills have long since ceased as working mills but we have the remains of the weir on the river and the mill race within our woodland. Afon Cneifa ( River Cneifa) runs though the valley along the whole length of our 2½ acres of woodland to waterfalls at the end of a woodland walk. the woodland riverside walk at PenfeidrThe Woodland Garden is an ongoing project that we are working on in order to create a relaxing retreat. Secluded woodland glades are being created linking together along the river walk. The Woodland Garden is not a regimented place, we endeavour to work alongside nature and leave plenty of opportunities and homes for the wild flowers, insects and animals.
In the woods there are many shades of green. Shrubs, trees, lichens, ferns and mosses are making their home wherever they can. There are the sounds of many birds, insects and the river that add to the magic of the woodlands. We have been working on the project since 1999 when we moved to North Pembrokeshire after working in the Cardiff area.
